Dr. Allen graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1966 and has taken more than 5000 hours of continuing dental education since graduation. He has been a member of various study clubs and has served as a mentor. Dr. Allen has been on the faculty at the UW School of Dentistry in the department of Operative Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. Teaching videos have been made in his office on business management and professional ethics for use at the Dental School.

Dr. Allen has served as president of the Seattle-King County Dental Society and the UW Dental Alumni Association. He was named UW School of Dentistry Distinguished Alumnus for 2008. Also, he has served as the Chair of the Washington chapter of the American College of Dentists. The Rotary Club of North Seattle has elected him president and "Rotarian of the Year".

Originally from Spokane, Dr. Allen served in the U.S. Air Force after completing dental school. He and his wife Judy, also very active in the community, live in the Shoreline area. Dr. Allen enjoys golf, gardening, travel, skiing and playing with his five grandchildren.
